Stig Ålund is a social worker and has extensive experience as a professional in the municipal sector, including as director of the Kommunförbundet Skåne. As a pensioner, he is very active in the civil society and has positions of trust for the National Association of Pensioners (PRO) at both local and regional level.

Since 2013, Stig Ålund has been an extremely active representative of older people and their organizations in the research on the elderly, ageing and health that is conducted within the framework of the Center for Ageing and Supportive Environments (CASE) and the Department of Health Sciences.
