RELOC-AGE

The RELOC-AGE research project will provide a greater understanding of the significance of housing and relocation for active and healthy ageing. The project also aims to develop a web-based service to assist older people in making well-informed decisions about their future housing options.

Three sub-studies are included in the three-year project, which is being carried out at the CASE Centre for Ageing and Supportive Environments.

Large registry study

A large registry study is expected to provide insight into the effects of housing choices and relocation on human health.

Questionnaire and interview study

RELOC-AGE also includes follow-up with participants who are recruited through the public housing company Karlshamnsbostäder, ÖrebroBostäder and the member-owned housing company Riksbyggen. The participants in the study are asked to answer questions about their housing situation and their views on their health and opportunities for active ageing.  

The study began in 2021 and participants are being followed over time, the first follow-up was carried out in 2022 and a second follow-up was carried out in 2024.

During 2022 and 2023, a number of people were interviewed in depth about their experiences of moving from one home to another, as well as how they view the home and its importance for the possibility of active ageing.

Web-based service

The researchers are also working to develop a web-based service to provide housing counselling – “Ageing in the right place”. The prototype has been developed in collaboration with older people and actors in the housing sector and is intended to provide support to the ageing population as they consider their future housing options. The project is based on the participation of users, i.e. the older population. The knowledge gained from the study will be used to further develop the service and for pilot projects in two municipalities.
